Clothes, shopping, and reflexivity

Over the next however long, I’m going to be doing a multi-part series on two recent shopping trips: one to a series of department stores to enhance my work wardrobe, and one to the campus bookstore for casual wear.

The material culture class I took a couple years ago focused on costumes (in the academic sense of the word “costume,” not the more common Halloween or theatrical sense). Everyone was assigned an item from what is now the Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection. I actually had a crazy quilt, which was terrific both aesthetically and in terms of provenance. But since I never did a piece of clothing, I figured I would take the opportunity now. I’ll add links to the posts as they go live.
